ABOUT THE ARTIST
Painting a world of color…
Influences: the French Impressionists, as well as the Early California
Impressionists: Sam Hyde Harris, Hanson Puthuff, Edgar Payne,
William Went, and John Gamble. Contemporary Artists: Margot
Lennartz, Karl Dempwolf, Martha Saudek, Arthur Egeli, and Wei Lo,
Tim Tien and Frank Serrano.
My painting career began with art classes in life drawing at Barnsdall
Art Center. Since I started painting in earnest in the 1970s, my love
of art has included painting in watercolor, acrylic and oils. Currently,
I paint primarily in oils, often out of doors where I select the
elements of a captivating scene that best express the mood I want to
convey. I must work quickly to capture the ever-changing light
effects. It is this highly creative process that I find most rewarding
and challenging. I often use my plein air work as studies for larger
oil paintings done in my studio. Also, I use flowers from my garden
and objects from my collection of family treasures to create sensitive
still life paintings.
